Dr. Alpharetta Butcher - ??? - 1/7/91
- Daughter of J. K. and Wilda Butcher. Married to Dr. James A.
Archer, divorced, one daughter, Mary Ann. Alpharetta was a language
arts teacher at Paintsville High School for many years following
her graduation from the University of Kentucky where she earned
a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in languages. Later, she was employed
by the state Department of Social Services in Paintsville.

Dr. Ernest E. -
- Dr. E. E. Archer was born in Floyd County but moved to Paintsville
soon after receiving his medical degree. He married Fannie Auxier,
daughter of James W. Auxier. Dr. Archer served in World War One
as a medical officer achieving the rank of major at his discharge.
He returned to Paintsville in 1918 and, with Dr. J. C. Sparks
and Dr. J. H. Holbrook, founded Paintsville Hospital in 1920.
Dr. Archer served as Mayor of Paintsville from 1926 through 1934.

- Arrowood,
Henry - 11/11/1896 - 11/12/60

Henry
Arrowood was a popular journalist and legislator whose writing
was marked by his sharp wit and a deft sense of satire. Henry
was employed for many years by the Courier-Journal. He later founded
the Paintsville News in 1934 which merged with the Paintsville
Herald, the combination of which Henry served as editor and co-owner
and co-publisher for several years. He served four terms
as State Representative from Johnson and Martin Counties. Prior
to his death and for many years Henry wrote a weekly newspaper
column entitled "Arrowpoints."

- Arrowood,
Irvin R. - 6/18/01 - 1/12/83
- Beginning his career in the machine shop of North-East Coal
and later joining his father as a traveling hardware salesman,
Irvin Arrowood became a successful oil and gas distributor who
gave a great deal of himself to community service. He was a member
of the Paintsville Kiwanis Club, Masons and served for many years
as a member of the Paintsville school board. He was known for
his wit and his friendly nature.

- Auxier, James W. - 11/22/1865 - 8/1/38
- CompFounder,
president and general manager of Paintsville Wholesale Grocery
any. He was the father of Fannie Archer, Margaret Hager, Maxie
LaViers and Leona Newman.
