Bob Daniel, 1953 graduate, basketball and baseball star at Oil Springs High
School, was named Most Valuable Player in basketball and was All-Conference in
baseball at Western Kentucky University under Ed Diddle and also starred four years in
baseball as pitcher and first baseman at WKU. He was drafted by the Rochester
Royals professional basketball team but chose to play professional baseball for
the Pittsburgh Pirates from 1958 through 1960 when a shoulder injury moved him
to the Pirates’ scouting staff. Daniel entered coaching and eventually had successful
coaching tenures at Kentucky Wesleyan College and Marshall University.
Daniel opened a chain of sporting goods stores following his retirement
from coaching. (Thanks to Garland LeMaster for reminding us of Bob Daniel’s
remarkable sports career.)

- Davis, Dan - 1844 - ????
- Dan Davis was a farmer, banker and coal entrepreneur. He put together large land
holdings and, with John C. C. Mayo and Dr. I. R. Turner, leased thousands of acres of
coal. He was one of the founding directors of Paintsville National Bank.

- Davis, Elmon - 12/17/16 - 10/4/95
- Elmon Davis, known throughout the county as "Mr. Apple" because of his
identification with the Johnson County Apple Festival, was an officer and employee of
Citizens National Bank until his retirement. He had served in World War II and was an
active member of the Masons and Shrine. Elmon was Johnson County Treasurer for many years.

- Davis, George W. - 12/25/1898 - 5/26/97
- George was one of the early coal miners in Consolidation Coal Company's Van Lear mines.
He and his wife, Verlie Fitch, had six children. Following his retirement George enjoyed
regaling his family and friends with tales from his coal mining days.

- Davis, Harry - (died) 4/24/62
- Harry was the son of Dan Davis. He continued his father's business practices and
established a successful career in banking as an officer of First National Bank of
Paintsville. Harry was also active in the county's agricultural affairs.

- Davis, Hazel - 9/3/01 - 9/10/83
- Hazel Davis became one of Paintsville's most successful business women upon the death of
her husband. In addition to managing the family's land and mineral holdings, she was an
active Director of First National Bank. Earlier in her life Hazel Williams Davis was a
school teacher. She and Harry had two daughters, Martha and Helen.

Dorton, David H. Sr. - 12/19/1890 - 3/17/72
- Dave Dorton, a banker and civic leader, was born at Red Bush. Following brief service
with the U. S. War Department during World War I, he began an illustrious banking career
with then Second National Bank (now Citizens National Bank). He served for many years as
president of the bank. For 18 years he was treasurer for the City of Paintsville.

- Dorton, Oscar Trigg - 6/15/20 -
- Trigg Dorton graduated Paintsville High School in 1938 and from the University of
Kentucky with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Commerce. Following military service with
the U. S. Air Corps he joined the staff of Second National Bank (now Citizens National
Bank) in 1945 as an assistant cashier and followed his father's footsteps as a successful
banker, civic leader, community developer and
businessman. For
many years Trigg served as a member of the Paintsville Utilities Commission, the
Paintsville School Board, the Kentucky Independent College Fund, Big Sandy Area
Development Council, Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, Kentucky Bankers Association and as a
director of the Cincinnati Branch of the Cleveland Federal Reserve Bank. He retired from
Citizens National Bank after serving as its president and CEO for many years. Trigg is
active in the First Methodist Church of Paintsville and the Paintsville Rotary Club. For
many years Trigg was one of the major driving forces behind the Paintsville-Johnson County
Industrial Development Commission. He, and others, were responsible for luring American
Standard and Island Creek Coal Company to Johnson County.

- Dorton, Dennis T. - 7/30/47 -
- Like his father and grandfather, Dennis T. Dorton joined the staff of Citizens National
Bank in 1970 following his graduation from Morehead State University. Dennie is a graduate
of the National Investment School, University of Oklahoma, the National Trust School,
Northwestern University and attended the Stonier Graduate School of Banking, Rutgers
University. Dennie served several terms on Paintsville's City Council, as a member of the
Paintsville Independent School Board and the Paintsville Utilities Commission. He also
serves on numerous community boards and committees throughout the Big Sandy Region. As
President of Citizens National Bank, Dennie was responsible for the bank's growth and
expansion through the acquisition of The Bank Josephine in Floyd County. He is active on
the Board of First United Methodist Church of Paintsville.
