- Hager, Russell -
- Russell Hager, the son of Daniel M. Hager and Janie Melvin Hager, is best known as the
owner, along with his wife Dawson Halstead Hager, of Hager's Drug Store at the corner of
Main and College Street in Paintsville. Although not a pharmacist, Russell could wield a
mortar and pestle and prepare medications and did for more than 40 years. He was active in
community affairs including two terms on the Paintsville City Council. His ice cream sodas
were legendary.

- Hall, Blanche Ward - 8/12/1899 - 7/7/86
- Blanche Ward married Paul Bryan Hall prior to his graduation from the University of
Louisville Medical School. She devoted her life to her husband, her two sons, Robert A.
Hall and James E. Hall, and to the First Methodist Church of Paintsville where she taught
the youth group Sunday School class for more than 40 years.

- Hall, C. C. "Chic" - 4/15/06 - 8/5/94
- Chic Hall was a building contractor and a Freewill Baptist minister. He was one of the
first local ministers to take his ministry to the public on radio, beginning religious
broadcasts on WSIP in 1950.

- Hall, C. Mitchel - 3/27/1899 - 3/25/92
- Mitchel Hall was a civil engineer by profession and an author, historian and genealogist
by desire. He assisted his brother, Dr. Paul B., in designing the front nine of the
Paintsville Golf Course. In 1926 he published a History of Johnson County and later wrote
several other books, including a four volume set of local genealogy entitled Jenny Wiley
Country. His son, Dr. Maurice M. Hall, practiced medicine in Paintsville for more than 45
years and became one of the region's most beloved physicians.

- Hall, Dr. Lon C. - 12/2/12 - 3/11/89
- Dr. Lon Hall was one of the most noted obstetricians and pediatricians in Kentucky. He
spent his entire medical career practicing in Paintsville following training for his
specialties at Harvard Medical School. The story is told that an eastern Kentucky mother,
concerned about the health of her child, called a specialist at Baltimore's Women and
Children's Hospital. She asked if she could bring her child to him for a medical
examination. He reportedly replied, "Certainly, madam. But why go to all that trouble
and expense. You have one of the best pediatricians in the country right there in
Kentucky."

- Hall, Dr. Maurice M. - 12/31/21 -
- Dr. Maurice Hall graduated from the University of Missouri and Louisiana State
University College of Medicine in 1947. He joined the staff of Paintsville Hospital and
later entered the United States Air Force for three years, serving in the U. S. and
Germany. Dr. Maurice became one of the region's outstanding obstetricians before his
retirement.

- Hall, Dr. Paul B. - 1/21/1897 - 6/9/90

- Physician, philanthropist and sportsman, Dr. Paul Bryan Hall served his fellowman and
his community with distinction. Prior to earning his medical degree from the University of
Louisville, Dr. Paul B. was a gifted baseball star at the University of Kentucky. He later
served in the United States Navy during World War I. He took up the game of golf and, upon
his return to Paintsville to practice medicine, he persuaded his father to give him a
portion of the family farm for a golf course. Dr. Paul B. became a formidable left-handed
golfer. He also served as a director and officer of First National Bank of Paintsville.
Dr. Hall was one of the foremost surgeons in eastern Kentucky. Before his death he was
inducted into the Kentucky Sports Hall of Fame and named a Distinguished Fellow of the
University of Kentucky.
- Orville L. Hamilton – 11-08-41 –
- Orville L. Hamilton graduated from Paintsville High School and Eastern
Kentucky
University before embarking upon a career in education. In 1973,
at the age of 32, he became the youngest superintendent of county schools
in Kentucky when he was named Johnson County Superintendent. Hamilton had
previously served as a teacher at Flat Gap, then Director of the National
Youth Corps program at Paintsville High School. He left educational
administration in 1982 to pursue business interests in coal and real
estate only to be re-appointed superintendent of Johnson County in 1993.
Hamilton’s administrations have been marked by improvements in academic
and athletic achievement and in the construction of new facilities
throughout the county.

- Haney, Orville - 9/16/28 - 4/22/84
- Orville Haney, a janitor at Paintsville High School, endeared himself to both students
and faculty for many years. He pursued his menial tasks as if they were part of a
professional and sacred responsibility and, in doing so, he made them just that. Prior to
joining the custodial staff of Paintsville High School, Orville worked for the City of
Paintsville as a sanitation employee with the same dedication and pride that be brought to
the school system.

- Hazelrigg, Judge W. B. - 11/18/18 - 9/29/88
- Lawyer, prosecutor and judge, William B. Hazelrigg graduated from Paintsville High
School in 1936 as a basketball star and was awarded an athletic scholarship to Western
Kentucky University. Judge Hazelrigg entered the University of Louisville Law School
following his graduation from Western. Bill served two years in the U. S. Army before
accepting a position in the Office of the Attorney General of Kentucky. Bill and his wife,
Tommy Jean Kirk Hazelrigg, returned to Paintsville in 1948. He was elected Commonwealth's
Attorney in 1958, a post he held until being appointed Kentucky Highway Commissioner by
Governor Louie B. Nunn in 1968. Bill was elected Circuit Judge in 1976 and served in that
post until his retirement in 1984.

- Horne, Verne P. - 1/30/04 - 9/9/88
- Verne P. Horne was one of Johnson County's most noted teachers and school
administrators. After teaching for many years, Verne became principal of Van Lear High
School. He was named Johnson County School Superintendent in 1943 and served in that
position until 1958, the second longest tenure of any county superintendent.

- Howard, H. M. "Hobe" - 8/9/1897 - 2/5/86
- Hobe Howard, a native of Magoffin County, owned an automobile agency in Paintsville and
later expanded his business interests into soft drink bottling, beer distribution and real
estate. He was at one time active in the Paintsville Chamber of Commerce. His principal
past time, however, was engaging in politics, quietly assisting candidates of his choosing
in city and county races. At the time of his death, Hobe had numerous real estate holdings
in Paintsville and Johnson County.

- Hutchison, Bob - 3/21/54 -
- Bob Hutchison arrived in Paintsville in 1979 from Ohio to open his family's first
McDonald's Restaurant in Eastern Kentucky. Bob, and his brother Tom, now own nine
McDonald's in the region. Bob studied business administration at Kent State University
and, as all owner/operators must, graduated from McDonald's Hamburger University. As an
active member of the community Bob is involved in numerous civic and charitable
organizations. He is a director or officer of Citizens National Bank, Commercial Bank of
West Liberty, Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center, Paintsville Tourism Commission,
Prestonsburg Community College, Mountain Christian Academy and the Paintsville Tourism
Commission. He is also a member of the Johnson County Board of Education. Bob's experience
and success have earned him a position of leadership inside the McDonald's organization
where he serves as a Charter Board Member of the Ronald McDonald Children's Charity and
McDonald's Leadership Council.

- Hughes, Mary Katherine Matney - ???? - 7/13/83
- Kitty Hughes, daughter of Harve Matney, pursued a career in nursing following her
graduation from Paintsville High School. In high school Kitty was an outstanding member of
the Paintsville Comets basketball team. This team went to the state tournament in 1924,
1925 and 1926, with Kitty Matney as its captain. Kitty was inducted into the Paintsville
Sesquicentennial Sports Hall of Fame in 1985. She married Dennis Hughes.
